Monica Antonides

Monica Antonides has taught at the elementary and middle school levels for more than 14 years. All her teaching experience has been in Christian schools, and she has a lifelong commitment to Christian education. Monica received degrees from Redeemer College in Ancaster, Ontario and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Monica is married to Tim, a fellow Christian school teacher and she has twin three-year-old boys. Her interests include travel, hiking, and reading.

Monica is very excited to be joining Regent this year. She loves personal interaction with students and parents, as well as the fulfillment that comes with teaching children. She is greatly looking forward to the year ahead as she serves God in this new capacity.

Arend Bakker

Arend lives with his family in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. He has worked for many years in Christian education and is teaching at both Nanaimo and Duncan Christian. As well, He enjoys the challenge of teaching for RCOA, and getting to know many families schooling at home. His educational concentrations are in Social Studies and Sciences, but he has taught all subjects ranging from Woodworking, Drafting, and Small Engine Mechanics to all the core subjects at the High School level. He enjoys building and fixing things and playing bass with his church worship team.  Arend is convinced of the importance to nurture and raise young people to live life from a biblical worldview in service to God and neighbour.  

 

Linda Barber

Linda Mehus-Barber lives with her loving husband, Don, affectionately known as “the buffalo,” their two dogs, and cat in the seaside community of Crescent Beach in Surrey, British Columbia.

She has been an educator for over 30 years, teaching in one of Canada’s largest school districts before moving to British Columbia. While teaching in Alberta, Linda received a provincial Excellence in Teaching Award for outstanding teaching, and an Award of Merit for leadership in environmental and outdoor education. Nikki Bergstresser

Nikki Bergstresser grew up in Manitoba and received her Bachelor of Education from Brandon University. She has teaching experience in the public and private school systems in Manitoba and British Columbia. Nikki is married to Kevin and excited to celebrate their 10 year wedding anniversary this December. Nikki and Kevin are blessed with two little girls. Amy is five years old and Emma is 3 ½ years old. During the last four years, Nikki has been working for a college as a distance education instructor and program developer for the teaching assistant certificate program. Over the years Nikki has been actively involved in their church working with youth groups and drama. Most recently she has enjoyed having the opportunity to work with parents, infants and preschool children instructing group music classes with rhythm instruments. Nikki is excited to have the opportunity to be at the Regent Resource Center working with the families throughout their educational journey this year.

Donna Bouvette

 Donna Bouvette is very excited to be on board with Regent this year as a teacher and Nanaimo Resource Center coordinator. Donna comes to serve you in this capacity with over thirty years of teaching experience in both public and Christian school settings. Donna is currently working on a Masters' degree in Education and is thrilled to be involved with an online schooling. Donna believes this is the future direction of education in our province. She and her husband Ron have two grown children. Anthony was married last summer and lives with his bride in Ohio and Jacqueline, who still lives at home, is engaged to be married next fall. They live in Lantzville and are adjusting to the idea of being empty-nesters at this next stage of life that God has blessed them with. Donna looks forward to meeting new families and working with them to "train up a child in the way he should go . . ." (Proverbs 22:6)

Lori ann Brehaut

Lori ann graduated in 1990 from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with a BA double major in Chemistry and Secondary Education. After getting a Masters in Theology from Prairie Bible Institute in 1992, she served in Christian ministries and secular jobs in varied places such as the Crowsnest Pass, Peru, northern Idaho, and Taiwan.

Since returning from teaching English in Taiwan in 2001, Lori ann has settled with Lionel, her husband of 13 years, on Vancouver Island, most recently in Victoria and North Saanich. She has operated a tutoring company in Victoria for over seven years and has experience with K-12 students and subjects in almost every academic subject area.

Her passions include her 3 ½ year old daughter, Joanna Joy; motivating people to fulfill the Great Commission to the most unreached people groups remaining in the world today; and having theological discussions that convert religiosity into a living relationship with a Savior.

She looks forward to helping students and their families find success in their homeschooling experiences so they may use their knowledge and skills to share Christ with the world.

Margaret Clayards

Margaret has spent the last 27 years in Port Alberni, with many varied teaching and organizing experiences, both in Christian schooling, the Public schools, and church. Her education degree from the University of Victoria was in Math and French, but she has taken many courses in a variety of other subjects.  While raising her children, she worked as a substitute teacher in most subjects, but mostly French Immersion, Programme Cadre and core French, from Grades K-12. She has been teaching at Port Alberni Christian School since its inception in 1994, and have been its Principal since 2004. Her classes have always been multi-graded and she have taught most subjects from Gr. 3-9, with some time also in K- Gr.2. She has had experience working with homeschooling families and she have always been very involved with the education of her own children, especially with her son whom she taught in varying degrees throughout his eight years with PACS. Her and husband have  loved Port Alberni but are looking forward to our new life in Victoria, especially as two of our three children will also be living here, as well as other family and friends. Margaret also is excited at this new teaching experience with RCOA and at meeting her new students and families.

Allison Croswell

Christie was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley and received her BA and BED at Malaspina University-College. Christie and her Mike, have two children; Julianna and Grayson. She worked for two years teaching grade 2 in North Carolina and returned home to Duncan to have her children. The Lord has blessed Christie with the opportunity to be a stay at home mom and also continue to work in her profession. Christie is entering her fourth year with RCOA and has worked as both a Resource Center teacher and Family Support teacher. Christie prays that in the coming year the Lord will use her to encourage and support the families she works with, both in the homes and in the classroom.

Noreen and her husband Greg live and attend church in Victoria. Last year, she worked in Victoria with special needs students in the local school district. For many years, she was a teacher at Trinity Christian School. After this, she returned to WRCA and has just returned once again, part time, after her maternity leave.

Trevor grew up in rural Alberta and moved to Victoria in 1980.  Trevor and Natalie  have been married for eleven years. They spent four and a half years in New England working with Streams Ministries, planting churches and developing worship musicians. Trevor presently serves as a worship pastor at Lion of Judah Ministries in Victoria. He studied French and Spanish at University of Calgary, and French at University of Victoria. Besides his Lord, his lady, and his five children, his passions include the nations, worship, music, languages, literature, poetry, and sports.

Natalie has been married to husband, Trevor for 10 years. For two years she has been homeschooling her twins Liam and Lydia who are almost 7. Sophia, who is almost 5, is now included. She resided in New Hampshire for 4 ½ years and are glad to be back in Victoria. Natalie received her B.Ed from the University of Victoria in 1992 and spent 2 years at Laval University in Quebec City to improve her French. She worked at Sooke Christian School for 2 years, teaching primary grades and the French program, followed by 5 years with Trinity Christian School, teaching Kindergarten and French to the older grades. Joanne Janzen

Although Joanne Janzen was born in Manitoba, she spent all of her school years in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alberta after attending Concordia College in Edmonton and Camrose Lutheran College (now Augustana) in Camrose, Alberta. Her first teaching job was in Athabasca, Alberta followed by Westlock, Alberta. After teaching for 6 years she went back to school at the University of Victoria where she completed her Masters of Education degree in Music Education. She also had the opportunity of attending the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria for a year of Music education.

In 1993 she became the pioneer teacher for the MEI Elementary school in Abbotsford where she taught for 6 years full time and 5 years part time. She has been married to Marcus Janzen for 13 years and they have three wonderful children. Kirah is 10, Ashley is 7 and Marik is 4 ½ years old. She has been home schooling her children for 2 years and taught the Kindergarten class at the Abbotsford Resource Centre last year. This year, she is sharing the coordinator position of the ARC with Jackie Kientz. She is enjoying home schooling her own children and is looking forward to working with 2 other families as their support teacher this year.

Karen Johnson

Karen and her husband Pete   have been married for five years. Her husband is currently attending seminary to become a Pastor. God has blessed them with three beautiful children. A daughter, Lorelei, just turned 4 in October. A son, Nolan, turned 2 in September. And their newest addition, Tobias, was born on August 28, 07! They also have a Jack Russell Terrier named Tessa, who is full of energy around new people, and extremely lazy around them! Amidst her busy days of caring for a newborn and two energetic youngsters, She thoroughly enjoys homeschooling her daughter two days a week for preschool, and having a craft day with her son and daughter once a week! Painting with a two year old is an adventure!

Karen completed her education through Trinity Western University. She taught for 4 years in a Christian school in Surrey, B.C. After having Nolan, God called her to explore the homeschool community. This is her second year with Regent and she feels very blessed to be working with such amazing staff. Karen has a wonderful group of families to work with in Surrey and Langley, and it's an honour for her to work with families that care so immensely for their children's future. Jackie Kientz

Sherilyn has lived in Abbotsford for 10 years and her husband, Gene, and they will be celebrating their 9th anniversary this December. they have 2 children, Bryson 6, and Samara, 3. She hasa huge dog, Otis, who may be confused with a polar bear in his winter coat. Sherilyn graduated from UVIC in 1998 with her B.Ed. She taught in the public system in Chilliwack for 5 years before having her children. Kelly Siemens

Kelly lives with my husband Ross and two daughters Ashley (14) and Alexandra (12) in Abbotsford B.C.. She attends Living Hope Christian Reformed Church. Her family enjoys skiing, hiking and brisk walks with their bichon frise Oscar. Kelly enjoyed her first year with Regent and also her first year of homeschooling her two daughters. Kelly has taught in a Christian school setting since '89, fulltime, subbing (when her kids were little), and then half time grade five for the past six years. Kelly graduated from Trinity Western University with a Bachelor of Education degree and part of my education was at Dordt College, Iowa and Calvin College in Michigan. This has been a challenging and exciting change for them this year! Kelly has also enjoyed working with another families, getting to know their children and helping them with the education they are providing at home. Marilyn Smith

Marilyn lives with her husband and family in the Cowichan Valley. She and her husband Dave  are celebrating 25 incredible years of marriage this December and they are proud to have 6 wonderful children. They range in age from 24 down to 6, three of them are all grown up and out on their own. The Lord has blessed them with the opportunity to be involved in the lives of more than 30 foster children over the years, specializing in caring for severely disabled infants and children. As a teacher Marilyn has worked in many capacities, often helping students with learning differences or exceptional medical needs. Marilyn has been a part of the home schooling world for the past 7 years and she is thoroughly enjoying her new work with RCOA. Ardel Taylor

Ardel graduated with a BA in English from Trinity Western University in 2000. After 5 years working in social services with youth and women’s programs, she decided to return to school to complete a Bachelor of Education. In Sept. 2006, Ardel began her teacher training with Simon Fraser University, and participated in their international module where she traveled to Trinidad for her first practicum. Ardel was excited to live in her parents’ homeland for 9 weeks, visiting with family and exploring her cultural heritage. Ardel returned to BC for her extended practicum in a Grade 1 classroom, where she was kept very busy! Ardel loves children and is looking forward to her first year of teaching with Regent Christian Online Academy. Lorrraine Thompson

Lorraine received her Bachelor of Education in 1995, from the University of Victoria with an emphasis in Language Arts and Remediation of Learning Difficulties. In that same year she was asked by her church, the Esquimalt Church of the Nazarene, to open an elementary school for them using their facility on Craigflower Road in Victoria. Safe Harbour Christian School was opened and Lorraine held the position of Principal and teacher there until its closure in June 2008. Lorraine has been married to her husband George for 36 years and they have two adult children with homes of their own, Russell and Sheryl. Sheryl and husband Don live in Nanaimo and have two boys, Dylan 15 and Jared 10.

Kathy Trepanier

Kathy has been married to her husband Rob for 23 years. They have 3 children ages 19, 15, and 10. In 1987 they founded Cornerstone Youth Society, a Christian non-profit organization that reaches out to youth at risk in Victoria, B.C. Kathy is a certified teacher who has been teaching, in various capacities, at Greater Victoria Christian Academy (formerly Trinity Christian School) for the last 20 years. Currently she is teaching part-time at GVCA as well as doing some teacher on call work there. This is her 2nd year working for RCOA. Deanna Van Woudenberg

Deanna Van Woudenberg is delighted to have joined the Regent staff team. She holds a Bachelor of Education from T.W.U. and has taught primary grades in Christian and public schools for about 8 ½ years. She loves working with children and their parents and has relished the experience of homeschooling her two daughters, Katriana who is an artistic Grade two student, and Marina who is a very creative Kindergartner. Benjamin their affectionate four year old brother enjoys participating in Art, Bible, and other school activities that interest him.

When not home schooling, Deanna enjoys occasionally speaking to local groups about marriage, parenting, and teaching topics. She also likes to make family photo albums and to do other creative projects. Deanna and her husband Gerald have been happily married for nearly 16 years and are really enjoying this season of parenting together. Deciding to become a home schooling family has been one of the best decisions they have made, and a great change for their whole family. Deanna is excited about working with Regent families next year and doing all she can do to encourage and support them in their home schooling journey. She has a vision for working with parents so that they will feel supported rather than stressed about all aspects of being enrolled, particularly meeting learning outcomes and preparing portfolios. She will draw on her experience and expertise in working with primary children, as well as her experiences this year of being a first time home school parent.

Celeste van Breda

Celeste has been teaching for more than 17 years in both public and private settings. She enjoy students of all ages and at all levels.

Born and raised in South Africa they (Johann, myself and two Dalmatian dogs) immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 2000. Celeste grew up in Vanderbijlpark and moved to Potchefstroom in 1989 to study. She graduated in December 1993 with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Potchefstroom.

Celeste met her sole mate in her final year of serving on the student council. Celeste and her husband exchanged marriage vows on December 9th, 1994. They moved to Johannesburg where they lived, worked and played for 6 years. On May 17th, 2000 they landed in Vancouver which is now their permanent home.

It seems that they have too many interests which makes it very difficult to list everything they like and do. Apart from experiencing God, church, enjoying their 2 year old Joshua-Johann, studying, MusicMatters, teaching, and their pets, Celeste and her family keep themselves busy with a number of hobbies and interests. Together they enjoy running, cycling, golfing, wind surfing, touring on their motorcycles, kayaking, snowboarding and spending time with friends.

Amy Vandenberg

Amy graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL with a BA in Elementary Education and concentrations in music and language arts. After teaching in Chicago’s inner city for 3 years at the Grade 1 level, She married Scott and moved to Terrace, B. C. where she taught Grade 5 homeroom and Grade 9 English. Since having their kids, she has been at home and taught piano to all ages as well as tutored in a variety of subjects. Amy completed her masters in education from SFU in September, 2000. Amy loves music, books and loves being creative and she is really looking forward to supporting and learning alongside other homeschool families and supporting her husband as they embark on this new journey that the Lord has placed before them.

Amy and Scott have been married for 11 years and have 4 wonderful children: Allison, Ryan,  Brendan, and Kaleigh.  They enjoy volunteering in a variety of capacities – including leading worship in church.  They look forward to continuing to serve God through Regent Christian Online Academy and wherever else He leads.

Sandra Venema

Sandra lives with her husband and five children in Abbotsford, BC. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1990, and then taught in the primary grades at Abbotsford Christian for about 6 years before having a family. Since then, she has done work tutoring students who need extra help in reading and math. A year and a half ago, God led their family into home schooling one of their children, and soon after that the rest of the family joined in! Home schooling has been a very positive and fulfilling experience for their family. Sandra enjoys working with and supporting Christian families who are on a journey of learning more about God and his amazing world, and really appreciates the community and caring Regent offers to families and staff. Dorothy has delighted in teaching students for more than twenty five years in a Christian school setting. She studied at the University of Victoria for three years and later received her degree from Simon Fraser University. For the past twenty years she has carried out the Lord’s call on her life in teaching at Duncan Christian Elementary School. She lives in the “slow community” of Cowichan Bay (just south of Duncan). Dorothy and her husband Johan have five grown children, three of whom are married. They have three grandchildren, with two more on the way. As all her children and grandchildren are living in other places around the continent, she is so looking forward to making new relationships with parents and students locally. Dorothy enjoys hiking, swimming, scrapbooking, gardening and boogie boarding in Tofino. She is looking forward to continuing to serve the Lord at Regent Christian Academy.   • After the wonderful success of our first short term mission trip to Guatemala, the RCOA missions team is planning a second, twice as long trip for students from grades 10-12 to obtain credits for graduation. This is the first of two Guatemala Mission Trips scheduled for the 2009/2010 academic year.
