Regent Christian Academy was founded in 1978, when God spoke clearly to the pastors and leaders of Bible Fellowship Church that He wanted a place where He could be free to touch hearts and lives. God wanted a school where His Word would always be lifted high, and where worship and His presence would be a way of life. With the help of Bible Fellowship's then pastor, Kirk Duncan, a school for Kindergarten through Grade 12 was started in the basement of the church, then located on 104th Avenue near the Trans-Canada Highway in Surrey, British Columbia.
Bible Fellowship Academy opened with 45 students, two teachers, and a handful of helpers. There was no gym, no laboratories, and no playground, only a group of people whose common desire was to follow God's vision. Today, Regent Christian Academy not only boasts a new name, but also computer and science labs, a full-sized gym, and 39 acres of land. Our enrolment has reached approximately 400 students and continues to climb. In the fall of 2005 we began construction of a new 16-classroom, three-storey school building. Staff and students alike are very excited that this long prayed for facility will finally be a reality, serving Christian families in the Surrey area for generations to come.
Though much has changed over the years, the vision of the school remains the same as when it was started 27 years ago. There is a desire among the staff and administrators of Regent Christian Academy to foster an environment where the Holy Spirit can touch and change lives, and equip young people to serve their communities with the love of Jesus. With God's help, we will continue to do so for years to come. We continue to expand our ability to reach the lives of families.
In May 2005 RCA was pleased to announce the launch of our new Distributed Learning School program designed to meet the needs of home learners. The RCOA offices, originally at 3460 Shelborne St. in Victoria, have moved to the McKenzie Professional Building to accommodate the amazing growth of the DL school over the last three years. RCOA, beginning with just a few teachers and two Resource Centres to serve under 100 students, is now blessed with over 30 certified Christian teachers, 5 Resource Centres, and serves approximately 350 students and their families. Regent Christian Online Academy is now accepting applications for students for the fall of 2008.
